Khushboo, one of the most popular actresses in Tamil films, has decided to join the ruling DMK. Remember she is one of the few leading ladies for whom a temple has been built by her fans in the state.
Today (May 14) evening she would soon be calling on the DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to enroll herself as a primary member of the party. Khushboo has caught the media by surprise as they were all predicting that she would join Congress as she herself had hinted in her recent interviews.
Khushboo had decided to join politics after she won a major battle in the Supreme Court as all cases filed against her for her controversial remarks on pre-marital sex made in an interview in 2005 were quashed. Overnight, she became a role model for the youth and lakhs of women in the state.
Her popularity and reach among the ordinary folks had political parties wooing her in a big way. And with state assembly elections due in 2011, it is a win win situation for DMK and Khushboo, who will also be contesting in the elections.
Speaking to sify.com Khushboo said: �I decided to take the political plunge, because it will give me a bigger platform to reach out to the common man, with whom I have a connect through my social work.�
