After delivering a hat-trick at the box office, Universal Star Mohanlal reunites with Major Ravi for an action entertainer Karmayodha, 2 yrs after the unsuccessful Kandahar. Karmayodha deals with the sensitive theme of immoral trafficking of girls and the flesh trade. DCP Madhavan Nair a.k.a Maddy (Mohanlal) is a no-nonsense officer who will go to any extreme to wipe out crime.
The crux of the film narrates how Maddy cleans up the goons who deal with this illicit business through his inimitably brutal ways. Karmayodha boasts of a really good theme but is let down by a very weak script and poor direction. The weak supporting cast also adds to the woes. Its an out-an-out Mohanlal show from the start till the end and the actor is just ravishing on screen with his powerful presence. The dialogues are crisp while the fights are well shot. However, that's the only positive of Karmayodha as everything else goes haywire. The theme could have been executed in a much better way but Major Ravi lost grip of it totally. The music is poor but the BGM is good.
On the whole, the first half is just about watchable while the 2nd half is decent for a while before messing up big time. The climax is okay but by then the damage was done. Karmayodha is a one-man show from Mohanlal but even he couldn't salvage it. The film is for hardcore fans of the actor while the rest might not be too impressed with the film as the theme was good but execution messy. Watch it only for Lalettan.
